Steve DeMasco's Shaolin Affiliate Program

First I want to thank you for your interest in the Shaolin affiliate program.

I have been a student of the martial arts for over 34 years. I say student because I have never stopped taking lessons.

There is a major difference between being involved or teaching the martial arts and actually being a student of the arts. I have had the good fortune of training with Chinese Grandmasters privately for over thirty years, 27 of those years on a weekly basis. For the past 11 years I have trained each and every year at the original Shaolin Temple in China with the senior Shaolin Monk.

It has been an experience I would have never imagined possible.

Since my training in the Shaolin Temple I have been given the honor of representing the Shaolin Arts in the United States. I am the only American Shaolin Cultural Ambassador in this country. This honor has been bestowed upon me by my master Shi Yongxin, the head Abbot and spiritual leader of the Shaolin Temple, Dengfeng China. This appointment was also approved by the Chinese Government.

My mission as Ambassador is to spread Shaolin martial arts philosophy. The philosophy is simple, as the life of a true Shaolin monk is, that is to rid the world of pain. I don't claim to be qualified to take on that enormous task. However, I try to do my part by teaching Shaolin martial arts and philosophy.

Besides the many adults I have trained in my career, I have spent the last 25 years working with troubled youth, many coming from the juvenile justice system. This art and philosophy has helped shape many young lives to live a more productive and rewarding life.

WHAT IS THE SHAOLIN AFFILIATE PROGRAM?

First, let me state what it is not! The Shaolin affiliate program is not an association. An individual or school owner cannot pay a fee and become a Shaolin affiliate. The reason this cannot happen is because it is very important to the Shaolin Temple that I maintain the integrity of the Temple and what it represents.

Shaolin has a rich history of over 1,500 years. In addition to my martial arts training at the Shaolin temple each and every year, I am instructed in Shaolin history. It is not enough to just know the art; one must understand it's history and culture, of which I am still learning.

To become a Shaolin affiliate one must take lessons. This can be done in person or on line. Either program will instruct you in the five animal forms and weapons. The lessons are from 20 minutes to half an hour long. This might not seem very long, however, the material is intricate and requires the proper time to learn it and to understand it, especially if one wants to become certified.

As a member, you will have the opportunity to view and down load a maximum of two lessons per week. The entire program can never be down loaded at one time.

There are three levels to the Shaolin Affiliate program.

Level one will take you through seven Shaolin animal forms in addition to two weapon forms, the Shaolin Staff and the Shaolin broad sword.

Level two is the advanced program. This level will instruct you in five additional Shaolin forms and one advanced Shaolin weapon form.

Level three is the Master's program. This program will instruct you in three Shaolin Master forms and two Master Shaolin weapon forms.

*If a student wishes to obtain rank by sash color and wishes to receive a certificate of rank, it must be done in person by Grandmaster Steve DeMasco or by one of his authorized Instructors.
