Shaolin 5 Animal - Sash Advancement

Question: Who is sash advancement for?

Answer: Sash advancement is for the individual who is looking to obtain recognized rank in the Shaolin 5 Animal System.

Question: What level martial artist do I have to be to train and obtain sashes in the system?

Answer: You can be any level, or you can never have studied before.

Question: How long will it take me to receive my sashes?

Answer: That will depend on your prior experience. If you have never trained in Kung fu before this movement will be very different for you, regardless of your prior experience. If you have trained in Chinese Kung fu with a qualified instructor, then you will learn quicker. There is no time frame, we want you be happy with your training and we want to make sure that you understand the philosophy surrounding Shaolin 5 Animal System, and how to execute its movements for each and every animal.

Question: How many forms are there?

Answer: To obtain a Black Sash, (equivalent to a Black Belt) you must learn and be tested in a minimum of 7 hand forms and two weapon forms, 21 self defense techniques from the forms, the staff and the broad sword.

Question: Can I take private lessons with a certified Shaolin 5 Animal instructor.

Answer: Yes, you always have the option of taking private lessons with an Instructor certified by Grandmaster DeMasco. That can be arranged for you through the Grandmaster, via the contact us form.

Question: What is required of me to obtain sash advancement?

Answer: To obtain sash advancement you must do the following. 1. Learn each and every hand form, self defense technique, and weapon form required for each and every level. 2. You must send in a DVD each month to Grandmaster Steve DeMasco for review of the form you are learning. 3. You must test in person a minimum of three times per year with a certified Shaolin 5 Animal instructor, designated by Grandmaster DeMasco.

Question: Can I test with the Grandmaster personally?

Answer: Yes, however it is not necessary to do so, as stated you can test with a designated certified instructor. If you do wish to test with the Grandmaster, he is on all coasts at least one time per year. This can be arranged via email.

Question is there an additional fee for Private lessons?

Answer: Yes, the fee varies, depending on the level of the instructor you train with.

Question: Is there a fee for the testing?

Answer: Yes, again that will depend on which instructor you test with. The fee is nominal. Your biggest expense will be traveling to a certified instructor.

Question: How long will I have to stay and test for my sash?

Answer: The length of the test depends on the level of the sash. However, regardless of the level, you can drive or fly in and accomplish this all in one day.

Question: What can I expect at the test?

Answer: Every form and Shaolin defense technique will be reviewed and graded. In addition, at the end of the test you will be helped and instructed with ways to improve and advance to the next level. There will be no additional fee for the time spent to help you advance.
